Pre-application permits have been filed for a new eight-story apartment infill at 2442 Haste Street in Southside, Berkeley. The proposal will replace a three-story Victorian home with three dozen homes across from People’s Park and three blocks from the UC Berkeley campus. Studio KDA is responsible for the application on behalf of a San Ramon-based LLC.

The preliminary filing has been submitted to streamline the official development application using Senate Bill 330. Given this, project details are understandably slim. The application describes an eight-story structure containing roughly 41,600 square feet and 36 homes. There is no mention of whether retail will be included. Two of the homes will be designated as affordable to very low-income households. On-site parking will be included, but the capacity is not specified.

The property is located along Haste Street between Telegraph Avenue and Dana Street. Residents will be across from People’s Park and several of Southside’s iconic businesses, like the Amoeba Music record store.

The property owner is 2442 Haste Street LLC, a corporation linked to a San Ramon-based address and two names. City records show the property last sold in 2013 for $1.7 million.

  1. This address is not “across” from People’s Park

Andrew, do you have the dimensions of this Victorian? I’m wondering if it’ll fit my lot.

I’m afraid I don’t have any documents about the site at the moment. If we ever see renderings shared, I could learn there and report on it, but that could be a while.
