Preliminary permits have been filed to convert an office building in Downtown San Jose into housing. The plans aim to bring around 133 units to the nine-story complex at 152 North 3rd Street. C2K Architecture is responsible for the application and design.
The recent preliminary application states the team aims to rezone the primary occupancy of the building from Type-B Office to Type R-2, i.e., multifamily residential. Residential amenities will include a lounge, fitness center, a game room, two music studios, a co-working cafe, a cinema room, meeting rooms, and a yoga studio.
The complex features a 1985-built tower while retaining the 1909-built historic facade of the Eagles Hall.
Plans for the proposed conversion were first reported by George Avalos for the Bay Area News Group. Avalos added that the property is owned by a group linked to WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann and a start-up executive with Flow, Max Fink. Flow is a residential real estate company founded by Neumann.
The property extends across from North 3rd to North 4th Street on a block bound by Saint John Street and Saint James Street. The building overlooks the Saint James Park.

Neumann is involved in this. What can go wrong?
Having said that, we need more people living downtown, and we have an office glut. So I wish him well.
