The San Ramon Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans tonight for an affordable apartment complex to rise at 2453 Camino Ramon within the Bishop Ranch neighborhood. The project will bring two hundred apartments as part of the ambitious master plan to bring housing to the decades-old suburban office campus. Eden Housing is responsible for the project application.
The complex will yield a combined 126,480 square feet, with 84,160 square feet in Building 1 and 42,320 square feet of housing in Building 2. Of the two hundred apartments, unit sizes vary with 63 studios, 75 one-bedrooms, 32 two-bedrooms, and 30 three-bedrooms. Building 1 will include 79 units of housing for low-income seniors and one market-rate unit for the on-site manager. Building two will include 119 units of affordable housing for larger families and non-age-restricted units alongside a property manager’s unit. Parking will be provided for 160 cars and 16 bicycles.
Steinberg Hart is responsible for the design. Illustrations show both structures will incorporate similar design features, with white stucco and wood-like panels incorporated across the articulated exterior. The housing will be built on top of the above-ground concrete garage podiums.
RHAA is responsible for landscape architecture. The ground-level area will be improved with a community park separating the two structures. The park will feature a tree-lined circle next to the arrival plaza and both lobbies. Both structures will feature podium-top courtyards with landscaping, outdoor furniture, and entertainment spaces.
The 2.2-acre property is located along Camino Ramon between Norris Canyon Road and Executive Parkway. Future residents will be across from the currently rising townhouse development, City Village by SummerHill Homes. While the site is located next to the popular Iron Horse Trail, the project does not include any new connections.
Eden Housing has filed the application on behalf of Granada Sales Inc. and Sunset Development Company. Sunset Development is the family-owned company responsible for building Bishop Ranch since the late 1970s. Sunset has worked with the city of San Ramon to pursue the CityWalk master plan. The ambitious vision hopes to reshape the 585-acre office campus with roughly 4,500 apartments, retail, and a hotel.
The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be shared.
The San Ramon Planning Commission is scheduled to start tonight, Tuesday, February 4th, starting at 6 PM. The event will be held at San Ramon City Hall. The event will be available to view online via Zoom or YouTube, but participation will be limited to in-person attendees only.
