Earlier this month, the Peninsula-based developer Prometheus received final approvals for an 80 million dollar loan towards the completion of their project located at 5150 El Camino Real in Los Altos. The project, located along the city’s main commercial corridor, would bring almost 200 units of new housing to the area.
The side is to be split into two five-story buildings and 24 new town homes, all designed by BDE Architecture. The two multifamily buildings will contain a combined 172 units, bringing the site total to 196 rental dwellings. Both of the multiunit buildings will face directly onto El Camino Real, while the townhomes will be set on the rear portion of the property.

Renderings of the site reveal a mixed material façade design with elements of grey metal complementing white, tan, and red-brown panels. The buildings massing will be broken up by multiple façade elements and physical offsets, preventing a monolithic appearance.

The new housing will be located in an area ideally situated for commutes to various tech campuses throughout the South Bay and Peninsula. Developers hope to attract residents as the demand for housing remains high throughout the Bay Area.
This site had originally been proposed for a project brought by a different developer. However, following a loan default in 2021, a legal ruling allowed Prometheus to purchase the property and bring a new project. Site preparation for the current project began in 2024 with the demolition of the existing office building. The newest injection of funding is expected to help the project finally reach completion.
