Preliminary permits have been filed for a detached backyard development at 5150 Shafter Avenue in North Oakland, Alameda County. The application is looking to add four units behind an existing single-family house. The Richmond-based religious non-profit TentMakers Inc. is responsible for the application.
The proposal will create a townhouse-style multiplex with four units, including two two-bedroom units and two studios. The project will not include new garages. Further information about the project’s development and design has yet to be shared.
TentMakers Inc. is a nonprofit Community Development Corporation focused on providing affordable, low-income homeownership opportunities. The organization’s work includes planning, design, permitting, and construction of house rehabilitation, manufactured homes, and accessory dwelling units.
The property is just two blocks from the retail-rich Telegraph thoroughfare and a 15-minute walk from the Rockridge BART Station.
Public records show the property last sold in 2000 for $190,000. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be shared.
