Multiple Construction Projects Underway at UCSF Children’s Hospital Campus in Oakland

Significant construction is now underway at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Campus in Oakland. The award-winning pediatric institution has been undergoing a series of recent modernization projects aimed at expanding and improving care for the region. In 2022, SF YIMBY reported on the proposal of a new administrative support building on the site. Construction for that project is now underway, with completion expected later this year. Meanwhile, plans for a new main hospital building were approved in 2024, with preparatory construction beginning in the following months. Major construction on the hospital building is expected to start this year as well. UCSF BCH and UCSF are self-sponsoring the projects.

New zoning worksheets were filed for a proposed development at 6230 Claremont Avenue in Oakland. The site had preliminary permits filed earlier this year, outlining plans for a new seven-story senior living and residential care facility on the site. As of July of this year, the project was being developed by Ellis Partners and Spirit Living Group, but the overall property owner is listed as the American National Red Cross.

A small office building at 6355 Telegraph Avenue in the Bushrod neighborhood of North Oakland has filed initial paperwork for a partial conversion to residential apartments. The preliminary designs brought by Earthquake and Structures, INC, call for the conversion of the upper two levels into six residential units, leaving the lower floor as the original office spaces.
