Zoning permits have been filed for a residential conversion of 2001 Center Street in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The application is looking to redevelop the seven-story office building with 58 apartments, a block away from the BART Station along Shattuck Avenue. Los Angeles County-based M.S. Consulting Engineering is listed as the project applicant.

Nord Ratree Inc. is reported as the property owner, having purchased the lot earlier this year. Nord Ratree Inc. is a seven-month-old company linked with a San Gabriel-based individual. The firm’s website, populated with stock images, describes the company as a real estate company based at 2001 Center Street.

The application describes the 100-foot-tall seven-story office complex as containing 35,900 square feet. The structure will be refurbished to include 58 apartments and a rooftop garden. Parking will not be included for vehicles, and six units will be designated affordable for very-low-income households.

The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be shared.
