The City of Palo Alto has granted a streamlined approval process for the seven-story proposal at 3781 El Camino Real. The 183-unit development benefits from the Builder’s Remedy and Assembly Bill 130, which exempts it from the California Environmental Quality Act review process. Sares Regis Group is the project developer.

The 82-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 318,290 square feet, including approximately 156,800 square feet of housing and around 98,140 square feet for the three-story podium garage. Unit sizes will vary with 24 junior one-bedrooms, 100 one-bedrooms, 45 two-bedrooms, and 14 three-bedrooms. Of the 183 units, 23 will be deed-restricted as affordable housing. Parking will be included for 215 cars and 148 bicycles.
BDE Architecture is responsible for the design, working with Guzzardo Partnership on the landscape architecture. Illustrations show a very familiar podium-style apartment complex, wrapped in brick veneer, painted stucco, and wood-like soffits. The brick will visually establish the base levels as a strong foundation, with a mix of setbacks and balconies breaking up the upper-floor massing.

Residential amenities will include a podium-top courtyard, co-working space, fitness center, a pet spa, and a rooftop club room connected to a terrace overlooking El Camino Real and Curtner Avenue.
The roughly 1.5-acre property is located along El Camino Real between Curtner Avenue and Wilton Avenue. Future residents would be a five-minute bus ride from the retail-rich California Avenue, close to the Palo Alto California Avenue Caltrain Station.
