Preliminary permits have been filed for an affordable-housing infill project at 1580 Maple Street in Redwood City, San Mateo County. The proposal would replace an undeveloped parcel across from the Redwood City Police Department Station and Redwood Creek. MidPen Housing is responsible for the application.

The roughly 42-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 68,020 square feet, including 51,900 square feet of housing and 3,950 square feet of common space. Apartment sizes will vary, with 46 one-bedrooms and 36 two-bedrooms. Surface parking will include 89 cars and a dedicated room for storing 42 bicycles.
Studio T Square is responsible for the design. Illustrations show the facade will be clad with a mix of stucco and fiber cement board-and-batten panels. The U-shaped floor plans will wrap around a ground-level courtyard with some outdoor seating and planters.

The roughly 1.5-acre property is located across from US 101 and a block from the Steinberger Marina. The undeveloped area surrounding 1580 Maple Street is expected to be redeveloped with a potential 131-unit townhouse infill and the recently built county navigation center at 275 Blomquist Street.
Devcon is expected to be the general contractor, and Guzzardo Partnership is the landscape architect. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have not yet been shared.
