New building permits have been filed for a four-story residential addition to 6501 Shattuck Avenue in Bushrod, North Oakland. The revived proposal will create 18 new homes for a neighborhood known to have a hot real estate market. Moshe Dinar of Dinar & Associates will be responsible for the design.
The contemporary design features two-story bay windows, with the fourth floor set back to create the 700 square foot roof deck.
The 43-foot tall will yield 25,310 square feet with 15,780 square feet for residential occupation and 1,980 square feet for a commercial space overlooking Shattuck and 65th Street. Parking will be included for 18 vehicles. Of the 18 units, there will be six studios, six one-bedroom units, and six two-bedroom units.
According to the project application, construction is expected to cost $3 million. That price tag is not inclusive of other expensive development costs. Bruder, LLC is the property owner.
The project replaces a long-vacant vehicle service station. Residents will be a short walk to the Ashby BART station. AC Transit will offer additional transit for residents, with quick access to downtown Oakland and Berkeley.
The development is supported by the Housing Action Coalition, a non-profit formed in 1999 to advocate for housing in the Bay Area.
