995 East Santa Clara Street has been purchased by the Bay Area-based First Community Housing residential developer for $5.5 million. The East Bay Times reports that the purchase brings FCH a step closer to realizing a 125-unit affordable housing structure on an 18,300 square foot parcel near downtown San Jose. The project benefits from San Jose’s General Plan 2040 Urban Village zoning.
David Baker Architects is responsible for the design. Renderings show that the facade will be clad in a brick-hued panel, with projecting balconies offered for private use. While the exterior has a traditional character, the interior is completely the opposite. White tile floors and white cross-hatched balusters envelop the courtyard with a bright ambiance, aided by an abundance of available natural light, weather permitting.
The sprawling Roosevelt Park is just around the corner from 995 East Santa Clara, offering picnic tables, skate parks, and baseball fields. The address is twenty minutes from the city center on foot and fifteen minutes from the San Jose State University campus. The future downtown San Jose BART station would be another five minutes walk into the city center, providing future tenants an easy commute to San Francisco and Oakland.
The FCH is also responsible for developing an 80-unit affordable housing block at 21 North 21st Street, known as the Roosevelt Park Apartments.
