Previously, plans to develop a hotel were approved for construction at 4701 North First Street in San Jose. Now, a project application has been submitted to replace the hotel plans with establishing a data center on the project site. The original plans from 2018 proposed restaurants, shops, two hotels and a Topgolf complex.
Terra Ventures is the property owner. CallisonRTKL is responsible for the designs.

The proposed plans from earlier called for an entertainment district named Shops @ Terra. As reported previously, the Alviso hotel project consisted of two hotels; and a retail, restaurant and entertainment area. The five-story building would have yielded 112,460 square feet with 214 guest rooms, and parking for 234 vehicles across four above-ground levels. Amenities included a pool and spa connected to outdoor dining, a yoga deck, a fitness center, and a restaurant on-site. One exception being Topgolf, that opened in 2021, offers high-tech golf experience; people can hit golf balls equipped with microchips that record distance and accuracy.

The project site is a huge parcel spanning 9 acres. Terra Ventures now seeks the approval of a different project consisting of data center, a power generating facility and a nearby retail building. The data center will rise two stories high and span 172,500 square feet. Preliminary plans showcase the possibility of a small retail center spanning an area of 15,000 square feet.
The new data center complex will be constructed at the corner of North First Street and Topgolf Drive, between Anderson Alley and Liberty Street. The project is consistent with the site’s Envision San Jose 2040 General Plan Land Use designation of combined industrial/commercial. This allows a significant amount of flexibility for the development of a varied mixture of compatible commercial and industrial uses.
