Construction has topped out for the six-story housing development at 732 El Camino Real in San Bruno, San Mateo County. Once complete, the project will add 134 rental units within walking distance of the city’s Caltrain Station. AMG & Associates is the project developer.
The six-story building will eventually open with 134 apartments across 94,000 square feet above a 25-car garage. Unit types include five studios, 127 one-bedrooms, and two two-bedroom units. The larger dwellings will be open for on-site property managers. Additional storage will be included for 148 bicycles.
AMG first submitted plans for 732 El Camino Real in September 2021, which the city rejected because of non-compliance with Senate Bill 35. In early 2022, a revised submittal received ministerial approval, and by December of that year, the team received final approval. The project had been occupied by a surface parking lot next to a now-vacant car dealership.
Orange County-based AO is responsible for the design, and the general contractor is Pacific West Builders. Of the 134 units, all but one on-site manager’s unit will be designated as affordable housing.
The 0.6-acre property is located along the main county thoroughfare between San Bruno Avenue and Kains Avenue. The BART-adjacent Tanforan Mall is just 16 minutes away on foot or six minutes by bicycle. Future residents will be close to the expanding YouTube Headquarters, as recently covered by YIMBY.
