A combined team from Suffolk Construction and Gilead Sciences celebrated the topping out of the new state-of-the-art facility in Foster City. The project at 331 Lakeside Drive, previously reported on by SF YIMBY in 2023, has hit a major milestone toward completion. Gensler is responsible for the architecture and design.

According to Suffolk Construction, the five-story, 182,000-square-foot facility will promote collaboration and drive innovation in the medical field. Each level includes various suites of laboratories, dedicated research equipment, support spaces for the handling of biological materials, and collaboration spaces. The designs will support Gilead’s advancement of 54 clinical programs spanning oncology, inflammation, and virology.

The 108-foot structure will be wrapped with a curtain wall glass shaded with vertical metal fins. Earth-tone stone framed terraces are carved out of the facade, providing channels of fresh air from the second to fourth floors.

The development is the latest in the growing Gilead Science Integrated Campus, a 72-acre master plan first floated in 2013 and approved in 2016. A third-story sky bridge will connect the new building with Building 324 across Lakeside Drive, integrating it with the surrounding facilities. With the addition of 331 Lakeside Drive, the campus will have reached over half a million square feet.
