The project team and partners recently celebrated the opening of Colibri Commons, an affordable housing complex at 965 Weeks Street in East Palo Alto, San Mateo County. The multi-structure complex has added 136 apartments, ranging in size from studios to four bedrooms, to the formerly vacant parcel. MidPen Housing and EPACANDO are jointly responsible for the development.

Matthew O. Franklin, President and CEO of MidPen Housing, said of the opening, “it took perseverance, collective will, and eleven (!) funding sources to transform a long-vacant lot into 136 new homes along with significant transportation enhancements. We applaud EPACANDO, a village of partners, and the City, County, and State leaders for their incredible commitment to affordable housing.”
David Baker Architects is responsible for the design, and PLURAL is the landscape architect. Residential amenities will include a community room, outdoor play areas, and an after-school learning center for residents’ children.
