The Berkeley Design Review Committee is scheduled to review plans tonight for a six-story apartment complex at 2800 Telegraph Avenue in South Berkeley, Alameda County. The hybrid event will discuss the SDT Architects-designed corner proposal expected to replace Karim Cycles. Avi Forman of Via Design Build is responsible for the application, filing on behalf of the property owner, Adlai Karim.
The roughly 70-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 19,600 square feet, including 17 apartments, one of which will be deed-restricted as affordable to a very-low-income household. Apartment sizes will vary, with a studio, 10 three-bedroom units, and 5 four-bedroom units.

SDT Architects is responsible for drafting the plan set, which is expected to be reviewed by city staff tonight, according to public records. YIMBY has reached out to Avi Forman about the updated renderings by Via Design Build shared with us last December, and we have yet to receive a reply as of the time of publication.
The roughly 0.1-acre property is currently occupied by the Karim Cycle shop at the corner of Telegraph Avenue and Stuart Street. The property is one block from Willard Park and a few blocks away from Berkeley Bowl.

Construction is estimated to last around two years from groundbreaking to completion. Speaking with YIMBY in late December 2025, the developer estimated construction could start as early as this Spring.
The Berkeley Design Review Committee is scheduled to meet tonight, Thursday, May 28th, starting at 6:30 PM. The hybrid event will be held at the North Berkeley Senior Center at 1901 Hearst Avenue, with online attendance available via Zoom.
