Santa Clara Planning Commission is reviewing the architectural and conceptual plans for a housing project proposed at 3335 Kifer Road, Santa Clara. The project proposal includes the construction of a supportive senior affordable housing complex with 80 units within the Lawrence Station Area Plan (LSAP). The site is currently occupied by an 8,992 square-foot research and development building and surface parking that are proposed for demolition.
The project is developed and sponsored by Allied Housing Inc. GLO Architecture manages the design concepts and construction.
The project site is a 0.54-acre lot. Named Kifer Senior Apartments, the total area proposed for residential use is 45,923 square feet. The total area allotted for commercial and office use is 1,897 square feet. The housing complex will consist of 79 affordable apartments offered as a mix of 30 studios, 45 one-bedroom units, and four two-bedroom units, plus one manager’s unit. 45 apartments will be reserved as permanent supportive housing (PSH) to help seniors with special needs. 17 apartments will be available to households earning up to 30% and 50% of the area’s median income, respectively. Residential amenities like community space, private offices, and public terraces will also be included.
The residential complex will house 24 vehicular parking spaces and 29 bicycle parking spaces. The building facade will rise to a height of 68 feet. The project is a green building and integrates solar arrays on the roof and additional energy-efficient innovations.
The estimated date of project completion is May 2023. The estimated cost of construction is $57.5 million.
