Demolition permits have been filed seeking the approval of demolishing an existing 5,780 square-foot building and adjacent surface parking lot at 30 South 1st Street, Downtown San Jose. The project proposal is a part of a bigger project that includes the construction of a six-story commercial building. UC Fountain Alley LLC is the property owner and applicant.
Named Fountain Alley, the new development will yield square footage of approximately 91,992 square feet. The two-story commercial hub will retail spaces, a rooftop bar, and a lounge. The project site is approximately 0.35-acres and comprises three parcels located at 26-36 South First Street in downtown San Jose. Outdoor seating is proposed along South First Street and Fountain Alley at the new structure.
A Historic Preservation Permit to preserve and renovate a city landmark (Kn0x-Goodrich building) and a Vesting Tentative Map to merge three parcels into one lot are also filed.
The estimated date of project completion has not been announced yet.
The project site is located next to the Bjarke Ingels Group-designed Bank of Italy tower and 35 South 2nd Street.
