The BART Board of Directors has voted to approve plans for the Lake Merritt Transit-Oriented Development in Downtown Oakland. The approval is a significant step towards reshaping two low-rise lots with two towers and two mid-density buildings containing affordable and market-rate housing and offices. The Board President, Rebecca Saltzman, says construction will start in 2024.
The City of Oakland’s Planning Department is scheduled today to review the preliminary development plans and receive public comment about the mixed-use proposal around the Lake Merritt BART Station in Downtown Oakland. The proposal would reshape two city blocks at 51 9th Street and 107 8th Street with apartments, office space, retail, open space, and community amenities. The prolific Strada Investment Group and the Oakland-based East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation are responsible through a joint venture.

The two blocks at 51 9th Street and 107 8th Street will create half a million square feet of new office space, retail, community amenities and contribute hundreds of new apartments to the Oakland housing market. Strada Investment Group and the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation are jointly responsible for the development.
