Once complete, the project will offer over a hundred units for educators in the city.

New Apartment Building Opens at 2001 Ashby Avenue in Berkeley

Resources for Community Development has opened a six-story and 87-unit project located at 2001 Ashby Avenue in South Berkeley. The project, named after Councilwoman Maudelle Miller Shirek, was first brought in 2021, with ground-breaking occurring in 2022. Delays caused the building to overshoot its projected opening date in 2024, but the project has now made it to completion, and is moving in tenants.

The designs by Stackhouse De La Pena Trachtenberg Architects calls for the demolition of a two-story building at 1677-1685 Shattuck Avenue, and the construction of a new eight story building with the revised address at 2109 Virginia Street.
