Crews have completed demolition of University Hall and its annex building at 2140 University Avenue in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. Our recent site visit shows the parcel is currently graded in preparation for the first of two phases to rise for the UC Berkeley Innovation Zone development, the six-story Bakar Labs for Energy & Materials.
The Berkeley Design Review Committee is scheduled to review plans for a second building within the Innovation Zone in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The project would create eight floors of laboratories, conference rooms, and classrooms to be occupied by a future institution and graduate students. The existing property is owned by UC Berkeley.
Plans have been published for the UC Berkeley Innovation Zone South Building before a UC Berkeley Regent’s meeting today in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The Regents are expected to approve a $29 million budget for site preparation, with $19 million from campus funds and $10 million from external funding.
UC Berkeley has published the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Innovation Zone, a two-structure laboratory along the western edge of the university’s campus. New details shared in the document reveal that the proposed North Building is the latest to become the tallest building in Berkeley, and construction could start as early as this summer. Details about the tower design and financing have not been published.
