New facilities are expected for the Cordilleras Mental Health Facility at 200 Edmonds Road in Redwood City, San Mateo County, on the San Francisco Peninsula. The development will include five structures, the tallest rising three floors. Skanska USA Building Inc is the contractor, while the property owner is the County of San Mateo. Construction is estimated to cost over $100 million.
The project will provide 80 mental health rehabilitation beds across five single-story structures and 57 new supported housing beds in the larger three-story building, named the Campus Center. The Campus Center will also include a chapel, medication room, art center, exercise room, kitchens, primary care exam room, conference space, and a volunteer center. Once complete, the campus is expected to yield 87,000 square feet of built area.
The global architecture firm, CannonDesign, is involved with the project. The firm has outlined the place to be energy efficient and hopes to receive LEED Silver certification. The design also elevates the building’s site, located on the eastern edge of a nature preserve that spans as far north as South San Francisco.
The new building permits have been processed by the county and have planning review approval. Their current status has been at Ready to Issue for just over a week now. Construction is expected to begin in early 2021 and finish by late 2023.
