Permits Filed For a Mixed-Use At 500 Lake Park Avenue In Oakland

Building permits have been submitted for a residential project proposed at 500 Lake Park Avenue in Oakland. The project proposal includes the development of a six-story affordable housing complex. A single-story commercial building will be demolished under separate permit.

EAH Housing is the project developer. Lowney Architecture is responsible for the designs.

The project site is comprised of three merged lots. The project was approved in 2018, and plans to bring a six-story building offering 54 residential units. The building will offer residential units from level 3 to level 6. Retail space spanning an area of 2,450 square feet and a community room will be developed on level 1. A courtyard will be designed at level 2, along with parking at level 1 and level 2.

The apartment mix will include studios and one- to three-bedroom units. Onsite amenities include common open space, a computer room, a community room, a lobby and indoor bicycle parking.

Electric and mechanical permit applications have been submitted.

Once completed, the apartment complex will be steps away from restaurants, grocery stores, and other community-serving retail, as well as parks and playgrounds, a library, a school, and the beautiful Lake Merritt.

  1. Although I am all in favor of affordable housing, this comes at the loss of another MCM icon, the old Kwik-Way drive-in. Losing these unique structures makes Oakland more homogenous and loses what Libby Schaff calls its “special sauce.”

  2. When will they be done. . . and. . . How can I get on a list to apply for these units?!?

  3. The developers keep saying more affordable housing, but to whose affordability, there
is no such thing as AFFORDABLE HOUSING! BRING DOWN THE RENTS WAY DOWN, THAN TRYING
TO BUILD MORE AND MORE BUILDINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • It will probably be at least 2 years before EAH begins to accept pre-apps. You should subscribe to their newsletter to be advised of upcoming lotteries.

  4. This area is already overcrowded. It’s going to be a disaster. And I too support affordable housing but not at this location.

    • That’s literally a NIMBY perspective. Laughing at the idea that anywhere in the Bay Area is too overcrowded for housing, let alone too crowded for a low-density proposal like this one.
