A new supportive housing residential project has been approved for construction at 9809 MacArthur Boulevard in Castlemont in Oakland. The project proposal includes the construction of a six-story residential building offering supportive housing units on a vacant property lot.
Velma Mae Campbell Land Holdings LLC is the property owner. Banta Design is the architect for the project.
Plans call for the development of six-story apartment building that will offer 49 residential units available at 100% very-low income rates. A parking garage with a capacity of 23 vehicles will be developed on the ground floor. The proposal also includes merging two vacant lots into one.
The building will be a Type-III construction over a concrete podium with smooth cement panel board siding. The façade will be laced with clear and black anodized double-glazed window assemblies, and perforated metal sunshades. Rooftop photovoltaic panel arrays serve the project electrical load.
The apartment complex will yield a total built-up area spanning 37,361 square feet. Over 20% of floor area will be dedicated to supportive services spaces including security offices, case management offices, computer lab, community meeting room, TV/social lounge, library, laundry rooms on every floor. Areas for a dog wash and bicycle wash stations, dog run, and open air decks will be created. A café will be connected to a top floor view deck.
The project was proposed earlier this year and now has been approved for construction by the Oakland Planning Commission. The estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet.

It’s unique, but not trying too hard. The alternating balconies are more private than what you’d expect in MFH and the daylit stairway will help residents connect with the street. Now if we can just get what’s going to go on outside under control…
Yes!
Minor editorial note, since you write about buildings a lot, can you give cross streets? It helps people orient better than an address
