A new affordable senior housing project is making progress at 51 9th Street in Oakland. New demolition permits have been issued for the project site to cleared off.
The scope of work includes the development of a new seven-story 100% affordable senior housing complex offering 97 units. The seven-story will span an area of 79,893 square feet, including 3,235 square feet of ground floor commercial space. The senior housing will offer units designed as a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units.
Demolition permits have been issued for the first building in the Lake Merritt BART Transit-Oriented Development plan.
The new construction will be developed adjacent to the Lake Merritt BART Station. The building facade will rise to a height of 84 feet and feature Type I-B (concrete) construction.
The estimated construction timeline has not been revealed yet.

Finally!
Yea I thought this process was streamlined? 😉
The demo permit is for an asphalt parking lot, so that part should take a day.
About time!
I spend a lot of time in Oakland Chinatown, and the eastern end by Lake Merritt BART needs all the help it can get. The neighborhood has a shocking number of empty lots and derelict buildings, sadly.
Wahoo! So excited for this project and for Chinatown to receive more housing. Those two blocks are super underutilized.
I am looking for either a studio or one bedroom I have no kids. I’m single been homeless for about Five years. I’ve been living house to house, family members and friends
