Developers are looking at a new property site to build a new home for the JFCS Holocaust Center at 2245-2255 Post Street in Lower Pacific Heights, San Francisco. The project would create a new home for the JFCS Holocaust Center, an educational facility run by the Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

Karin Payson Architecture + Design is responsible for the designs.

Developers have submitted an application for Shadow Study Analysis for the existing buildings on two adjoining sites. The scope of work includes the construction of a four-story building offering spaces for public exhibitions, a lecture hall, library, classrooms, offices and conference spaces as well as the Holocaust Center’s archives.

This is a new proposal for the Holocaust Center which will replace the previously approved project, because the project sponsor acquired the adjacent property, more than doubling the size of the proposed facility. This project will require a CUA for a non-residential building greater than 6,000 square feet in gross floor area. The project sponsor seeks a Legislative Amendment to establish a Special Use District for this site to accommodate its program. The project sponsor will also apply for a lot merger of 2245 and 2255 Post Street.

The project site spans an area of 0.1-acres and is on a block bound by Divisadero Street and Scott Street. Powell Street BART Station is located 20 minutes on foot. Construction cost is estimated around $12 million. The estimated construction timeline has not been revealed yet.
