The Los Gatos City Council voted 3-2 in favor of moving forward on a large mixed-use development located at 143-151 East Main Street, just across the street from Los Gatos High School in Santa Clara County. Earlier this year SF YIMBY covered the state environmental approvals for the developments, and the project has now swiftly moved to full approval by the city government.
The 52 foot tall building will require the demolition of an existing single-story commercial building, clearing the 0.42 acre lot for the new building. The resulting property will be a four-story mixed-use building with 30 residential units, including six affordable units. The project is brought by developers Capstack Partners, with designs by Kenneth Rodriguez and Partners.

The property’s ground floor will be commercial, building lobby and parking, providing 2,416 square feet of retail space and between 37-49 parking spaces located on-site.
Nearby Los Gatos High School staff and parents have expressed concerns about the project, specifically in how it will result in increased vehicle traffic. The area already becomes heavily congested during school pickup and drop-off times, and opponents worry about pedestrian safety. Meanwhile, advocates of the development cite the need for more housing and the site’s better transportation access relative to other parts of the city.
