Project plans have been filed for a six-story self-storage complex at 1125 Alhambra Boulevard in East Sacramento. The development would replace a small retail center with the imposing facility within view of the Capital City Freeway. Texas Investment Company LLC is the project sponsor.

The 74-foot-tall structure is expected to create 1,591 storage units across roughly 211,200 square feet and 5,000 square feet of commercial retail space. Four retail shops will be added along Alhambra Boulevard. Parking will be included for five bicycles, with space for two loading spaces.

Sullivan Goulette Wilson LTD is the project architect. Illustrations show little of interest, with the complex clad by a mix of grey corrugated metal panels, stucco, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Building signage will be added to the top of the north and west facades. TSD Engineering is working on the project as the civil engineer.

The retail center at 1125 Alhambra Boulevard had previously been anchored by a Rite Aid Pharmacy. The store closed in 2022 as part of a larger wave of closures by Rite Aid. The estimated cost and timeline have yet to be established.

    So what?

  3. what a useless land use in the heart of the city. zero foot traffic, almost zero employment, no tax receipts. Does the zoning really allow this?

  4. Aw. I kind of liked the building/s that are being replaced. The architecture ties into some of the surrounding buildings along Alhambra which all tie back to the design of the historic Alhambra Theater that was demolished.

  5. As a Yimby I am generally in favour of development, but man does self storage make me sad. It takes up a ton of space and brings essentially zero economic activity to the neighborhood. Even a parking garage is better (if you want to be in the business of storing people’s crap). This at least has a tiny bit of retail space, but I don’t have high hopes for any business located next to this hulking monolith.
