The public review period has begun for a new multifamily affordable housing development at 1207 North Capitol Avenue in San Jose. The project would involve the demolition of a single-family home to be replaced by a new five-story complex. Danco Group is the project developer responsible for the site.

The project spans an area of 1.5 acres, totaling 129 units. All units would be low-income units, with the exception of one manager’s unit at market rate. The project also includes over 13,000 square feet of communal areas such as lounges, community rooms, fitness facilities, and exterior open spaces.

The main building design features a C-shaped footprint, with interconnected open green spaces. Maximum building height reaches just over 53 feet. The architectural orientation ensures most units receive ample daylight from the West, East, and South, while the courtyard benefits from Southern light. Exterior balconies provide functional outdoor spaces and balance the building’s mass with individual units.

The site will be accessible by a new 24-foot wide driveway along North Capitol Avenue, leading to a 52-space parking lot. Meanwhile, a short walk provides access to the nearby Berryessa VTA light rail station.

  1. Howzabout adding some bright colors and striking murals to adorn the buildings? The Valley has a wealth of talented muralists.
Also, incorporate restaurants and/or coffee shops with outdoor dining. San José is blessed with an enviable climate: why not celebrate it?

  2. Great site for affordable housing! Right next to light rail station that’s 3 stops from a BART connection, plus lots of adjacent (admittedly auto-oriented) retail. I disagree that they should include retail on-site given how much is right next door.
