Construction Tops Out For 2125 Telegraph Avenue in Uptown, Oakland

Construction has topped out for the eight-story affordable housing complex at 2125 Telegraph Avenue in Uptown, Oakland. The project is looking to add just under a hundred units a couple of blocks away from the 19th Street Oakland BART Station. Mercy Housing is the project developer, and Cahill is the general contractor.

The eight-story structure will include 97 units, including 96 affordable studios and a two-bedroom apartment for the on-site property manager. Twenty units will be designated as permanent supportive housing units for seniors exiting homelessness. LifeLong Medical Care will oversee case management services for these residents, ensuring individualized support for health, wellness, and long‑term stability. Residential amenities will include an outdoor courtyard, community room, on-site laundry, bicycle parking, and additional services provided by Mercy Housing California.

Gensler is the project architect. While facade installation has not yet begun, crews will soon cover the exterior with composite fiber-cement panels and metal-frame windows. The complex has been designed to visually complement the style and color palette of the Hamilton Apartments, a century old-building once occupied by the YMCA. The building is now an affordable supportive housing complex owned by Mercy Housing.

The 0.2-acre property is located along Telegraph Avenue between 21st Street and 22nd Street. Future residents will be just two blocks from the 19th Street BART Station and three blocks from Lake Merritt.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held in February, with crews reaching the pinnacle now in less than half a year. Completion is expected by late 2027, with full occupancy anticipated by March 2028.
