Plans have been revealed for a new Squash sporting facility at 3422 Elm Street on Pill Hill, Oakland. The project will create nine squash courts, classrooms, and a gathering area to be managed by the local non-profit, SquashDrive. Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects will be responsible for the design.
SquashDrive describes itself in the project application as “a longstanding non-profit organization focused on youth education, athletics, and squash instruction.”
The squash center will rise two stories to yield a combined 19,300 square feet. The ground level will include a surface parking area for four cars. From the entry, visitors will find a lounge, study hall, showers, and an administrative office.
The gallery hall will extend from the lounge, with seating for observers facing the eight singles courts and one doubles court. A second floor will include two classrooms, a volunteer lounge, and a mezzanine viewing gallery into the squash courts below.
Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects is the project architect. Beyond the floor plans, illustrations of the project’s design have not been revealed. The project is across from 3414 Andover Street, where DNZ Homes has proposed a six-story apartment infill.
An estimated timeline for construction and completion has not yet been established
