New illustrations have been revealed for a three-story apartment complex at 4127 Martin Luther King Junior Way in Longfellow, Oakland, Alameda County. The short infill aims to create 14 new homes directly across from the MacArthur BART Station. Bitzer Banker Development is responsible for the application.

The 39-foot tall structure will yield around 9,710 square feet, with 9,520 square feet for housing and additional space for services. A southwest courtyard will offer shared open space. Across the property, a few private decks will give residents open-air space inside their homes. Surface parking for seven cars will fit in the rear of the lot/ Additional storage will be included for just four bicycles.

Kava Massih Architects is responsible for the design. The infill wrapping offers a restrained and balanced approach to the urban project, clad with randomized board and batten siding, cedar wood, and aluminum panels. The two three-story structures will be cantilevered slightly over the internal driveway, providing coverage for the four ground-level apartments and two stairs to reach the remaining nine units. An additional ADU unit will be positioned at the far end of the lot, across from the shared courtyard.

The 0.39-acre property is located between 41st and 42nd Street, close to the MacArthur BART Station, straddled by Highway 24. Across the underpass, future residents will find several shops and restaurants scattered along Telegraph Avenue.

Sort of an ugly building but that is only my opinion.
I just wish it was four stories taller being so close to BART.
Great that Oakland can “create 14 new homes directly across from the MacArthur BART Station”. Since public transit is soo available, can the unnecessary cost of making parking of seven cars be justified?
Gotta say I’m a bit baffled by “…several shops and restaurants scattered along Telegraph Avenue.” Did you mean several dozen?
