New renderings have been shared for Bay FC’s proposed soccer training facility on Treasure Island. The new fields and central structure will take shape in the island’s center, with views of San Francisco’s skyline across the water for the National Women’s Soccer League team. Seattle-based architecture firm Olson Kundig is responsible for the design.

Design principal Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, shared in the project press release that “the design of Bay FC Training Facility reflects California’s climate and cultural history, grounding it as both a symbolic and literal center of the Bay.” The project takes inspiration from contemporary luxury residential vernacular, incorporating natural materials for indoor and outdoor spaces. Central courtyards will punctuate the building like tranquil cloisters wrapped in transparent curtain-wall glass walls.
The facility will include three soccer fields and a two-story center. The structure will be designed for indoor training and recovery amenities to support the athletes and staff. Permits filed late last year stated that the structure would include a weight room, medical and wellness center, kitchen and dining room, laundry, locker rooms, lounges, meeting areas, event space, and athletic staff offices.

According to Bay FC, the team is collaborating with the City and the Treasure Island Development Authority so that “the training center’s design will complement existing and planned amenities while fostering meaningful public engagement.”
Bay FC was founded in 2023, with their inaugural season starting in March 2024. The team is the 14th to join the National Women’s Soccer League, playing home games at PayPal Park in San Jose. The project is expected to finish before the 2027 National Women’s Soccer League season.

I love the warm wood and natural grasses. Feels appropriate for an island!
Love it. The future of USWNT should have a beautiful facility
