Crews are making progress on the six-story residential development at 2902 Adeline Street in South Berkeley, Alameda County. The concrete podium has been completed, and wood-frame construction has begun to rise for the future 54-unit project. Realtex Group is the project applicant and owner.
Once complete, the six-story building is expected to span 54,470 square feet with 54 dwelling units, including 50 residential apartments and four live/work units. The ground floor will feature roughly 4,100 square feet of retail space and parking for 24 cars and 56 bicycles.

SDT Architects is responsible for the design. The building will conform to an irregularly-shaped plot of land, including the rounded corner at the intersection of Adeline Street and Russell Street. Illustrations show the grey-clad building will sit on top of an exposed concrete podium. The exterior will be improved with box bay windows and a podium-top courtyard along Russell Street.
Plans to add housing to the corner lot by Realtex have been in the works for over a decade, with Emilie Raguso reporting for Berkeleyside in 2015 on a packed public meeting for the early stages of the proposal. Realtex purchased the lot in 2018, but progress stalled out until a 2024 city council meeting discussed acquiring the ‘abandoned’ development, as reported by Hannah Kanik for the San Francisco Business Times. Construction officially started last July.

The 0.32-acre property is located at the corner of Adeline Street and Russell Street. Future residents will be living directly across from the famous Berkeley Bowl grocery store, and a block from Ashby BART.
Rubik Built is the general contractor responsible for construction.
