Permits have been filed for an affordable townhouse-style development at 335-355 Pierce Road in Menlo Park, San Mateo County. The project, named Laurel Landing, will bring eight larger apartments to a vacant lot close to the Belle Haven community center. Habitat for Humanity is developing the project, with MidPen Housing listed as the property owner.

The development will produce two three-story buildings, containing 10,050 square feet of housing and 2,880 square feet for parking. Unit types will vary with three two-bedrooms, three three-bedrooms, and two four-bedrooms.
TCA Architects is responsible for the design, and TS Studio will be the landscape architect. Illustrations show a vernacular townhouse design, with faux-bay windows and varied parapet heights. The exterior will be clad with composite siding and wood panels.
In a press release from Habitat for Humanity, the organization shared the following explanation for why this location in particular is important, writing that “In Belle Haven specifically—a historically underserved, diverse neighborhood—homes average $1.1 million, pricing out many longtime residents, especially families of color. Laurel Landing represents a meaningful step toward keeping families rooted in their communities and ensuring Menlo Park remains a place where people of all backgrounds can live and thrive.”

The development has been supported both by the city of Menlo Park and neighboring Santa Clara County. According to Habitat for Humanity, Santa Clara County allocated additional support from its Stanford Affordable Housing Fund to support Laurel Landing.
The 0.35-acre property is located along Pierce Road across from Highway 101, and a little over a block from the Belle Haven Community Center. The site is also near Meta Park and less than a mile away from Meta Headquarters and Dumbarton Bridge.
Construction is expected to start before the end of the year.
