Development permits have been filed for a five-story residential building at 8201 MacArthur Boulevard in Castlemont, Oakland. Located at the corner of 82nd Avenue, the project would add ten rental apartments with one affordable unit above a ground-floor retail space. Zara Construction Group is the project developer and designer.
The 53-foot tall building will rise from a 5,000 square foot parcel to yield 19,280 square feet, with 11,770 square feet for residential use, including 1,140 square feet of group open space on the fourth floor, 1,230 square feet for ground-level retail, and parking for nine vehicles. There will be no designated room for bicycle parking.
Of the ten units proposed in 8201 MacArthur Boulevard, all will have two bedrooms ranging, and one will be priced as affordable for a household earning between 80-120% of the Area Median Income.
The project would build on top of a vacant parcel, adding density and new retail in a sprawling suburban area of the city. Residents will find themselves down the street from the Castlemont High School.
Ayesha Chaudhry is the property owner. Construction is expected to cost over $5 million. An estimated completion date has not been announced.
