Urban Catalyst has received a $10.5 million loan to finance the pre-construction phase of Icon/Echo, a two-tower proposal at 147 East Santa Clara Street directly across from City Hall in Downtown San Jose. The plans will bring hundreds of homes across two acres, with construction now expected to start in one to two years. Gantry is responsible for providing the finance.

The proposal will bring nearly two hundred condominiums in the burgeoning high-rise neighborhood close to Levi’s Stadium. San Francisco-based Ensemble Investments is the project developer.

The proposal is expected to create nearly two hundred homes and even more parking near light rail, the Capitol Corridor train station, and Levi’s Stadium. The Builder’s Remedy was expected to boost housing construction across the state. However, it’s causing San Jose’s pipeline to shrink. The Bumb Family has withdrawn their 2021-proposed plan for the South District development, swapping the proposed offices and 3,450 units with a 940-unit alternative, representing a loss of 2,560 units. Since San Jose did not submit a compliant housing element, there is little for the city to do.
New project permits have been filed to replace the soon-to-close Safeway grocery store within the Valley Fair shopping mall with a surface parking lot. Demolition will be required for the strip mall-style structure at 3071 Stevens Creek Boulevard in Santa Clara. Westfield is the mall owner and manager.
