Plans have been filed for a multi-family apartment complex at 1121 I Street in Downtown Sacramento. The eight-story mixed-use infill will span three-quarters of an acre with 204 apartments. The project applicant is not listed.

Demolition will be required for just one building, currently occupied by Goodyear, an automobile tire shop. The rest of the block includes a thrift called the World’s Worst Bodega and the former home to Jim Denny’s Hamburgers. Construction will rise around 85 feet with 223,820 square feet.

The property will be an important addition to the city’s urban fabric. Construction would replace a car-centric plot of land close to the Sacramento city center, Cesar Chavez Plaza, and directly across from the California EPA Headquarters building.

The property takes up 0.77 of surface area.

NOTE: The story has been updated to reflect a more detailed recent application.

  1. Yes! I love me some 5 over 2, but eight stories is even better!

  2. Why can’t Sacramento do what Austin Tx is doing? They have quite a few high rise residential buildings in the downtown core.

    • You are comparing 2 completely different cities, region, state, economy, etc. There are so many different factors and reason why they aren’t “doing what Austin Tx is doing?”.

Money buys everything and that’s the bottom line regardless of my opinion. I hope I am wrong on how negative I view this project. Trust me I want to be wrong, but I’ve seen this for forty plus years in other areas and it didn’t bring positive outcomes to the community.
