Plans have been filed for a new Container Store location at 555 9th Street in San Francisco’s Showplace Square neighborhood. The store will occupy the 22,330 square-foot area formerly home to a Nordstrom Rack store. The new location will serve as a replacement for San Francisco’s existing Container Store at 26 4th Street by Yerba Buena Gardens and the Powell Street BART.

Arcadia Realty Trust is the property owner.

Side Studio is the project architect. Illustrations show that the design contributions will be limited and as unfortunate as any big-box store, focused on a blank wall with signage for the proposed new storefront and new signage along 9th Street and Brannan Street. The new store will occupy the second floor location spanning 22,330 square feet. The existing structure contains 147,900 square feet of retail built around the 136,140 square foot garage with a capacity for around 350 cars.

Arcadia Realty Trust is a New York-based equity real estate investment trust. The firm owns several other small and large properties in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. In San Francisco, these include the City Center anchored by Target, buildings along Fillmore Street, in Cow Hollow, and Union Square.

  1. Really bad sign for SF when retailers are swapping transit-adjacent walkable locations for big box stores near free parking/freeways. This complex should be replaced with a mixed-use housing development in the long run anyway!

  2. The Expensive Container Store

  3. I LOVE THE CONTAINER STORE. BOUGHT MY EUROPEAN SHOPPING CART THERE. LOTS OF FUN STUFF

  4. Way more convenient. Glad I can now buy bigger items from them to put in the back of the SUV.
