A new mixed-use project has been approved for construction at 557 East Bayshore Road in Redwood City, San Mateo County. The project proposal includes the development of two five-story buildings offering residential and commercial spaces along with onsite amenities, outdoor spaces, and parking.
SyRES Properties is the project developer. BDE Architecture is responsible for the designs.
The project calls for the demolition of an existing development to construct a mixed-use project with residential and commercial components. The residential part will consist of 480 rental units, 85 of which are affordable units. The commercial part will consist of a premier athletic club and spa for families, primarily consisting of a two-level 97,101 square-foot building and outdoor spaces. Spread on the southern portion of the site, the fitness center will span an area of 151,423 square feet, consisting of a 97,101 square-foot indoor gym (Villasport Building) and 54,322 square feet of outdoor fitness center. A total of 1,122 parking spaces will be provided on the site along with new landscaping, brand-new Bay Trail connection, publicly accessible open space, picnic tables, seating area, public art installations and a 60-foot visual and pedestrian landscaped paseo.
The project documents have been submitted, and an EIR has been published. The EIR determined that the proposal will not have a significant effect on the environment, and a mitigation report or monitoring plan has been adopted for the project. The estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet.
