The City of Mountain View has published an official notice of preparation of the Draft Environmental Impact Report for 749 West El Camino Real, Santa Clara County. The application aims to replace the surface parking, restaurant, and Chase Bank with 299 homes, retail, and a replacement structure for the bank branch. Greystar Real Estate Partners is the project applicant.

The 75-foot tall apartment structure will rise across the 3.05-acre property extending from Castro Street to Lane Avenue, with 10,740 square feet for commercial retail. The subsidiary structure will create 11,500 square feet for Chase Bank. Unit sizes will vary with 39 studios, 191 one-bedrooms, 63 two-bedrooms, and six three-bedrooms. Of the 299 units, 33 will be designated as affordable for low-income and very low-income households. Parking will be included for 489 cars in a two-level basement garage.

The project will use landscaping to create a pleasant pedestrian experience walking between the building and the streets. A central public plaza will create a gathering space next to the Chase Bank, the potential restaurant, retail space, and a residential lobby.

I want to move to a three-bedroom CONDO on the 6th floor with a view of the back mountain instead of a rental. I grew up in MV from August 1951 thru February 2000. Too many highly-turnover renters there. I lived in Miramonte/Castro St. area for the first 26 years.
