Preliminary plans have been submitted for an affordable residential project at 520 West Alma Avenue in Willow Glen, San Jose. Initial permits will add 91 apartments to the currently vacant parcel near a Caltrain stop. RCD Housing is the project sponsor.

The Senate Bill 330 preliminary application provides little information about the project. The future structure will offer 91 multi-family dwellings. The most significant aspect of the filing is that it will allow RCD Housing to streamline the approval process with the first permit. Demolition will be required for a vacant single-story structure.

The 0.6-acre property is between Alma Loop and Lelong Street, close to the Tamien Caltrain and Light Rail Station. VTA and Republic Urban Properties started construction on the 555-unit residential complex next to the transit hub last October with an official groundbreaking ceremony.

RCD Housing, or Resources for Community Development, is a Berkeley-based affordable housing developer with proposals across the region. The firm is pursuing a 99-unit development at 797 South Almaden Avenue. The firm has started construction on a project in Concord and recently launched the housing lottery for their six-story project in South Berkeley.
