Increased permits have been filed for the Kingdom Builder Senior Housing proposal in Eastmont, Oakland. The new application has increased the potential scale from five to six floors with even more housing at 7954 MacArthur Boulevard. Community Housing Development Corporation is the project sponsor working with Kingdom Builders, a Christian church.
The City of Oakland approved CHDC’s previous development permit last summer, benefiting from Senate Bill 35 and the State Density Bonus program to streamline the process.
The new application will create 50 apartments across the top five floors. All but one of the units will be one-bedroom apartments, with a large unit dedicated to the on-site property manager. The complex will be deed-restricted as affordable to households earning between 30-50% of the Area Median Income. Prospective residents will be aged 62 and older.
On-site amenities include a residential services office, a second-level courtyard, and a rooftop community garden. The services will provide a comfortable environment for seniors.
Previous plans were drafted by Kodama Diseno Architects, with a mixture of stucco, wood paneling, and fiber cement cladding across an articulated facade and a sawtooth roofing feature evocative of industrial design. Updated project plans are yet to be published with the new worksheet, so details involving the architecture and landscaping have yet to be shared.

Reached for comment, Kingdom Builders’ founder, L.J. Jennings, told YIMBY that the development team was told “we have to start the entitlement process over since we are adding an additional floor of units.”

I hope when they add the extra floor they can also add some more windows!
From the outside it looks like the Jail in Oakland with no windows or any kind of inspiration. My plain basic legos as a kid had nicer architecture this this.
