Planning permits have been filed for new housing at 2094 Mount Diablo Boulevard in Walnut Creek, Contra Costa County. The development will bring dozens of homes to a narrow parcel near the edge of the small urban core. Local resident Steve Depper is responsible for the application as the developer and property owner.

The brief description of Depper’s project describes 75 apartments across a single lot. The ground level will bring additional commercial spaces to the thoroughfare, replacing the existing commercial space that will need to be demolished by construction. An architect is not listed, though BKF Engineers is listed as the project engineer.

The 0.55-acre parcel is located along Mount Diablo Boulevard by Oakland Boulevard and the I-680 overpass. For regional transit, the city’s BART Station is 15 minutes away on foot to the north. A little less than a mile to the east, residents will find the popular Broadway Plaza shopping mall, a 1951-opened center with outdoor pathways connecting to an Apple store, Macy’s, and Nordstrom, among other retailers and restaurants.

Half a mile away at 1532 Mount Diablo Boulevard, Align Real Estate has proposed a three-building project with housing and commercial space. The project was first floated in 2020 and approved in 2023, with design by the internationally acclaimed architecture firm Woods Bagot.

The estimated timeline for development has yet to be shared.
