A meeting has been scheduled before the San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission to discuss proposed renovations for the San Francisco Art Institute’s Brown and Clay buildings. The two buildings in question are located at 800 Chestnut Street in the Russian Hill neighborhood. Jensen Architects are the project designers.

The primary focus of the project will include exterior restoration and the revitalization of the building grounds, including the addition of accessible walkways and access routes. Additional interior work will help with earthquake retrofit, improve electrical, and improve plumbing.

The building will also repurpose existing space to establish accessory spaces including a café, an art supply store, and three residential rooms for visiting artists. Upon project completion, the building will also restore public access to the building gallery, including the mural ‘The Making of a Fresco Showing the Building of a City’ by Diego Rivera.

The meeting for the project will take place at 12:30 on June 18th.
