New building permits have been filed for the proposed backyard accessory dwelling unit behind 2038 McAllister Street in San Francisco’s North of the Panhandle neighborhood. The development is expected to add two dwellings behind an existing apartment complex. Neill Sullivan of Sullivan Management is listed as the property owner.

Construction will add two accessory dwelling units within a detached single-story infill behind a three-story apartment complex, increasing the residential capacity of the site from five to seven dwellings. The new dwellings will each offer one bedroom and span roughly 600 square feet.

Mahya Salehi Studio is responsible for the design. Illustrations show the structure will feature contemporary vernacular design clad with smooth stucco and vertical wood siding.

Some surface parking will be retained on the site, though the new housing will replace some sheltered spots. The 0.16-acre property is located along McAllister Street between Central Avenue and Masonic Avenue. Future residents will be near the University of San Francisco campus and less than ten minutes on foot from Golden Gate Park’s Panhandle.

City records show the property last sold in 2004 for $1.47 million. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be shared.
