Construction has begun on an affordable housing community at Cypress Point Street in Moss Beach, San Mateo County. The development is looking to replace a former military training ground with 71 homes and an amenity center across 17 buildings. MidPen Housing is the project developer.

The development will cover approximately half of the 11-acre site, comprising 71 units across 16 two-story buildings. The 17 structures will total 67,400 square feet, including a 3,370-square-foot central community building. Unit types will vary, with 16 one-bedrooms, 37 two-bedrooms, and 18 three-bedrooms. The project will also set aside 18 units dedicated to farmworkers. Parking will be included for 142 cars.
Pyatok is responsible for the architecture, with Joni L. Janecki & Associates overseeing the landscape architecture. Illustrations show a simple aesthetic clad with open gable roofs and faux-wood cladding. The exterior will be clad with vertical fiber cement board & batten panels, horizontal cement boards, and composite shingle roofing. At the heart of the new housing block will be a central lawn, play structures, and a small community garden. Half of the site will be preserved as open space with walking trails.

The 10-acre property is elevated above Highway 1, with views of the Pacific Ocean and Montara Mountain. Moss Beach is one of a few unincorporated census-designated places along the highway between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay.
