Bowling Alley Demolition Later This Year at 200 Boone Court, Danville

Crews are expected to start demolition of the closed Danville Bowl at 200 Boone Court later this year in Danville, Contra Costa County. The shuttered facility is expected to make way for six new condominium structures, adding 47 units on the outskirts of Danville’s downtown. The San Ramon-based developer, The Address Company, is responsible for the project.

The project was approved at a stunning pace. Preliminary permits were filed with the town in July, invoking Senate Bill 330 to streamline the approval process. Formal plans were submitted in September, two design review meetings were held, and eventually the project was approved by the town’s Planning Commission in late November. Demolition is expected to start this year.

Full build-out is expected to produce 109,600 square feet across 47 units in six structures, including one seven-plex and five eight-plexes. Parking will be included for 104 across, with bicycle storage not specified. The project also includes the option to add two junior accessory dwelling units.

KTGY is responsible for the design, working with Walnut Creek-based Ripley Design on the landscape architecture. Illustrations show the firm approaching the project with a familiar contemporary style, articulating the multiplex buildings through material variation, setbacks, and gabled roofs to visually distinguish the separate units. The site will be mostly covered with internal roads, with some pedestrian pathways between buildings and along the edge of the lot.

The roughly 1.6-acre property is located along Boone Court between San Ramon Valley Boulevard, the Sycamore Square shopping center, and the I-680 Freeway. Once the former bowling alley is demolished, construction is likely to take around two years to complete.
