The company Prologis is eyeing a new location at 5977 Silver Creek Valley Road to be the site of a major new data center development. The San Jose location is currently vacant and well-situated for the project development, with access to nearby utilities and a local workforce experienced in data center construction and management.
If approved to move forward, the multi-level structure would include a total interior square footage of more than 500,000 square feet, making it a truly massive development. Of that square footage, at least 30,000 would be set aside for office space, with the rest being used to house equipment for processing and storing data.
The total expected energy requirements of the building is 99 megawatts. The site is well-positioned within three miles of an existing PG&E substation, and the developers plan to construct their own local substation on-site, along with backup generation to support the building’s energy needs. The site will also require a water supply equal to approximately 40 households. As per reporting from the Bay Area News Group, the developer has committed to minimizing the impact this project will have on the surrounding area.
The building itself is expected to have a simple exterior design. Early concept renderings show a blocky multi-story structure with a grey and white façade. The project focus will be functionality over aesthetics, but the developers are still making an effort to design landscaping and façade façade detailing to help break up the building’s chunky massing. Prologis has indicated that the project timeline is expected to be approximately two years.
