Financing Approved For Oak Hill Apartments in San Quentin, Marin County

Financing has been approved for half of the Oak Hill Apartments project in San Quentin, Marin County. The Marin County Board of Supervisors has authorized up to $41 million in bonds to support Eden Housing’s 115-unit proposal within the 250-unit master plan. The announcement comes less than a year after Education Housing Partners secured funding for the second portion of the hillside proposal.

The Oak Hill Apartments masterplan includes two roughly six-story apartment buildings, landscaping, surface parking, and protected areas across the 8.5-acre property. Eden Housing’s proposal is an 115-unit complex for extremely low-income and very low-income households. Education Housing Partners’ proposal would produce 135 units of workforce housing, geared towards local educators and County of Marin staff.

SVA Architects is responsible for the design, in collaboration with the landscape architecture firm RHAA. Renderings show two similar podium-style buildings with collage-style facade articulation, balconies, and several setbacks conforming to the sloped property, all intended to visually reduce the overall scale.

The property is currently occupied by the California State Prison San Quentin firearms range along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, directly across from the famed waterfront prison.

Full build-out is expected to cost nearly a quarter billion dollars, with financing secured from a range of sources including the County’s Affordable Housing Trust, the State of California, Federal Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership funds, and philanthropic sources.

The recent $41 million in bonds secured by the County are to be used to finance the property acquisition and construction. The estimated timeline for groundbreaking has not yet been shared.
